Merton E. Springer, 90, of Owatonna, died Friday, March 28, 2008 at Cedarview Care Center. He was born August 8, 1917 in Owatonna, the son of Edward and Lillian (Pendergast) Springer. Merton''s entire life was spent on the farm except for two years that he worked at Hormel in Austin. He married Loretta Hunt April 21, 1938 and she later died in March of 1973. Merton then married Dorothy Johnson September 11, 1974. Merton retired from farming in 1988, but still continued to work on the farm and raise chickens. He enjoyed going to auctions, and collecting things. Merton is survived by his wife Dorothy, son James R. (Elaine) Springer of Owatonna, daughter Carol (Gene) Stoltman of Trinity, TX, and step son James J.(Jan Ann) Johnson of Mankato. Eight grandchildren, three step grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren also survive him. His parents, first wife Loretta, one brother and one sister preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday March 30 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Funeral service will be held Monday March 31 at 10:30 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with the Reverend Josh Erhler officiating. Burial will be in the Merton Township Cemetery.
