Michael Joel Schull, 55, of Owatonna, died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Homestead Hospice House after a two year battle with cancer.
He was born June 8, 1960 in Owatonna, son of Burnell and Shirley (Bennett) Schull. Michael graduated from OHS in 1979. He farmed with his family and also was a truck driver for Nels Sprouls and MCT. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served for 17 years. He served six years in active duty as a Military Police and eleven years in the reserves, training in carpentry and masonry and working in an engineer unit with the only sawmill unit in the military. He received Seasonal Park Ranger Training in 1989. Michael graduated from Vermilion Community College in 1991 receiving A.A.S. degrees in Parks and Recreation Law Enforcement and Natural Resources Law Enforcement. He received his A.A. in general studies and A.S. in Wilderness Management in 1993. Michael later attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he graduated in 1998 with a B.S. in Forest Recreation. He later worked for Brown Printing, Power Team and Itron.
Michael enjoyed the outdoors, architectural photography, traveling, playing cards, drawing, painting and making crafts. He also took a special interest in building birdhouses, studying astrology and astronomy, watching birds, collecting and identifying flowers and rocks along with animal tracks. Michael and Kim also liked to spend time together collecting genealogical information. Mostly, though, Michael enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his granddaughters.
He is survived by his life partner, Kimberly Schull of Owatonna; daughters, Mikki (and Jake) Pongratz of Mankato, Theresia Ruby (and Coby) Paxton of Owatonna; granddaughters, Ann Walker, Nina Walker, Diamond Paxton; step-mother, Marian Schull of Owatonna; brothers, Douglas Schull of Redlands, CA, Loren Schull of Tacoma, WA; sisters, Vicki Schull and Lu Bennett (aka Cynthia Schull) both of Olathe, KS and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 cousins, 2 nieces, aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2016 from 1pm to 4pm at Michaelson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the St. John's Havana Cemetery, Havana Township at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the family of Michael Schull.
