Mildred May Hjermstad, 92, of Kenyon, formerly of Wanamingo, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Kenyon Sunset Home. She was born May 4, 1917 in Warroad the daughter of Harry and Rosina (Hess) Thompson. Mildred attended school and was a cook and housekeeper for area families in Warroad. She married Lars Hjermstad June 4, 1938 in Roseau. The couple lived in Wanamingo following their marriage. Over the years, Mildred was active in both Wanamingo Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, crocheting, flower gardening and baking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by sons, Lawrence (and Margaret) Hjermstad of Durango, CO, Reuben Hjermstad of Warroad, Morris (and Mary) Hjermstad of Wanamingo; numerous grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brothers, Dean (and Norma) Thompson of Warroad, Curtis (and Daphne) Thompson of New Market, Walter (and Karen) Thompson of Warroad; sisters, Dorothy Olson of Warroad, Vivian (and Bernie) Bergraph of Fargo, ND and numerous nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lars of 52 years; 4 brothers and a grandson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm and at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wanamingo on Monday from 10am to 11am. Memorial services will be held Monday, February 15, 2010 at 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wanamingo with The Reverend Clark Cary officiating. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
