Obituary

Mildred Mary Wanous, 94, of Owatonna, died Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Traditions II. She was born July 2, 1916 in Owatonna the daughter of Joe and Alice (Pavek) Racek. She attended school in Owatonna. Mildred was active in 4-H, was the Steele County Style Queen and won a number of trips to the State Fair as the Canning Champion and Sewing Champion in her youth. On April 24, 1935, she married Harold Wanous. They settled on a farm in near Pratt until moving to Owatonna in 1962. She worked at the Kelly Company for many years as a buyer. After retirement the couple moved to Mille Lacs Lake near Onamia. They moved back to Steele County due to Harold's failing health. She cared for him until he passed away in 1995. Mildred loved her family and enjoyed fishing, music, crafts, cards, bingo and spending time with her friends. She is survived by sons, Luverne Wanous of Owatonna, Francis (and Sharon) Wanous of Owatonna, Harold 'Rick' Wanous of Granada; daughters, Norma Ackerman of Peoria, AZ, Shirley (and Tom) Woodfill of Owatonna; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; brothers, Chic (and Barb) Racek of Owatonna, Ronald Racek of Owatonna; sister, Belle King of Venice, FL and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, 5 brothers, 2 sisters and 2 great grandsons. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4pm to 7pm and on Wednesday from 9:30am to 10:30am. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 10:30am at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Keith Meyer officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House, Owatonna Area Hospice Patient Care Fund or to the donor''s choice.
