Obituary

Miriam A. Bjelland passed away peacefully on Monday June 4, 2018 at the Vitas Hospice Facility located at Baylor Scott and White Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas. Miriam Adelaide Bestul was born on March 3, 1923 near Dennison to C. Wilhelm Bestul and Adel A. (Bakken) Bestul. The 3rd of 5 children, Miriam graduated from Kenyon High School, in 1941. She married Robert Bjelland of Kenyon, in 1943, a union that lasted 50+ years. Miriam loved Minnesota, nature, sports of all kinds, but especially the Twins, Vikings and Gophers! Miriam was also an avid and accomplished golfer, whose competitive nature saw her involved and victorious in multiple ladies' championships at her beloved Kenyon Country Club Miriam loved her home on Trondheim Drive and passionately manicured her large yard and surrounding greenery well into her 80's and early 90's. In addition to her primary role as a homemaker, Miriam worked part-time around Kenyon, at various local businesses including The Clothing Doc, Kenyon Drive Inn, Goodhue County Canning and The Motor Mart. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church where she was active in many of the church's ladies organizations. Miriam loved all things involving agriculture. She especially loved to drive the rural roads around Kenyon marveling at the beautiful country side and discussing at length the quality of the crops in various areas surrounding town. A true country girl indeed! Despite her love for Kenyon and her native Minnesota, she quickly adapted to life in Fort Worth, Texas for that past three years, residing near and finally with Ann and Steve. She is survived by her son, Steve (and Ann) Bjelland of Fort Worth, Texas and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; father, Carl Wilhelm Bestul; mother, Adel Bestul; 2 brothers, Carroll Bestul, Lyle Bestul; 2 sisters, Marna Walker, Estelle Neil. Visitation will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon on Saturday from 10am to 11am. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11am at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon with Pastor Julie Rogness officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon.
