Miriam Dorette Darling, 95, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Friday, March 14, 2008 at Cedarview Care Center. She was born October 9, 1912 in Brainerd, Minnesota the daughter of Edward and Miriam (Orton) Darling. Dorette attended school in Brainerd, MN and graduated from high school in Stickney, SD in 1928. She then went to Eastern State Teachers College in Madison, SD, and Sioux Falls College. She later received her Masters in Library Science from the University of Denver. After school she started a community library in Wentworth, SD, and she also taught in White Lake, SD and Lead, SD. Dorette later worked for Homestake Mining Company in 1947 as head librarian until 1966. Dorette then worked for Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD from 1966 until her retirement in 1982. In 1982 Dorette moved to Owatonna to be closer to family. She was a member of Associated Church and the church choir, member of Chapter DZ of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, and teacher''s organizations. She was a volunteer in the library at St. Mary''s School, and a member of Women''s Club. She loved reading mysteries and traveling. Dorette is survived by one niece Dorette Kanengieter of Owatonna, and one nephew John (Judith Coche Anderson) Anderson of Philadelphia, PA. One sister Ruth Ellen Anderson preceded her in death. Funeral service will be Wednesday March 19, at 2:00 PM at Associated Church with the Reverend Ron Wilson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 18, at Michaelson Funeral Home from 5-7 PM and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be on Thursday at 11AM in Graceland Cemetery, Madison, SD. Memorials are preferred to the Owatonna Public Library, Associated Church, or Daybreak Community Church building fund.
