Myrtle Florence Johnson, 95, of Medford, died Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. She was born August 30, 1918 in Deerfield Township, Steele County, Minnesota the daughter of Norman and Jenny (Lungren) Hanson. She attended country school District #92. She married Monroe Johnson on December 24, 1935 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. They lived in New Richland for a short time then moved to Hope where they farmed. In 1962, they moved to Medford. In addition to working on the farm, Myrtle also worked at the Owatonna Canning Company for 23 years. Myrtle was an excellent cook, and especially enjoyed baking for her family. She entered her breads into the Steele County Free Fair and won several ribbons. Myrtle and Monroe enjoyed traveling in the states and dancing. She was a member of the Card Club, Coffee Club, was a Rummikub game player, and an avid Wheel of Fortune watcher. She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis Kern of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Shirley Rose of Phoenix, AZ; two sons, David Johnson of Medford and Donald Johnson of The Villages, FL; son-in-law, Gary (and Carol) Halverson of Owatonna; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Hagberg of New Ulm; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Monroe, son, Manuel Johnson, daughter, Patricia Halverson, infant daughter, Carol Ann, sister, Mabel Wodrich, and brother, Clarence Hanson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Interment will be in the St. Olaf Cemetery in New Richland. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House Patient Care Fund or donor''s choice.
