Obituary

Myrtle Remold, 97, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. She was born August 9, 1913 at home near Dover, the daughter of Otto and Alice (Salzwedel) Smith. Myrtle attended country school near Northfield and later moved to Kenyon. On December 6, 1932, Myrtle married Peter Remold, who preceded her in death on January 17, 1972. Myrtle was a charter member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Kenyon and was an active member for several years. Myrtle was a CCD teacher and co-writer of the parish history. Myrtle's pride and joy was starting and working as a cook as well as being in charge of the renting hall for the group referred to as the "Golden Jewels." Together, they served many meals and luncheons. She loved the farm and enjoyed talking about the adventures she and Peter experienced while farming. She was a 4-H leader for 12 years, worked at the Sunset Home in Kenyon for 17 years, and also worked at the Goodhue Canning Factory in Kenyon for many years. She is survived by her sons, Everett (and Rose) Hanson of Rochester; Harold (and Ann) Remold of Byron; and Richard (and Ardella) Remold of Byron; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; sons, Paul and Duane; 3 sisters; 1 brother. Visitation will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Monday from 10am to 11am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 27, 2010 at 11am at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kenyon with Father Kevin Finnegan officiating. Interment will be in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Kenyon. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Catholic Church.
