Nora J. Peterson, 90, of Owatonna, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at Cedarview Care Center. Nora Jane Blowers Peterson was born August 7, 1920 in Waseca, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence and Edith (Eaton) Blowers. There, she was raised and attended school. Nora was united in marriage to Burton Peterson on February 12, 1943 at her family''s home in Waseca County. They resided in Carlton County in Minnesota until 1953 when they moved to Owatonna and began farming in Clinton Falls Township. Nora taught in rural schools in Carlton, Waseca and Steele Counties, Medford Public School and later for the Claremont Public School where she taught third grade and kindergarten. In all, over 40 years of teaching. Nora received her original teaching certificate in 1939 and her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education thirty years later in 1969 at the age of 49 from Mankato Sate University College. Nora was a member of the Owatonna Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for Meals on Wheels until the age of 81. Nora enjoyed family and was a lifelong reader and a regular visitor at the Owatonna Public Library. She was a member of and held volunteer positions at the Owatonna United Methodist Church. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday at her home with immediate family. She is survived by her children, Alan and (Joanne) Peterson of Owatonna; Jerry (and Debbie) Peterson of Cascade, CO; Steven (and Barb) Peterson of Colorado Springs, CO; Susan (and Tim) Jeffrey of Cold Spring; Thomas (and Susan) Peterson of Lakeville; twelve grandchildren; 11great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Barrett of White Bear Lake, Minnesota and Ruth Wright of Ormond Beach, Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband, Burton, her parents, three sisters and a brother. Visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church with The Reverend Loren Olson officiating. Interment will be in the Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Memorials are preferred to United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Owatonna Public Library or donor''s choice.
