Norma Marian Houglum, 91, of Kenyon, died Friday, May 27, 2016 at Kenyon Sunset Home.
She was born August 8, 1924 in Kenyon Township the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Schmidt) Burow. Norma married Herbert Houglum July 19, 1941 at St. John's United Church of Christ. The couple farmed together for many years in rural Kenyon. She was a hardworking farm wife who loved cooking, baking, sewing and quilting. She also did a lot of canning and was known to make excellent pickles. Norma was an active member of Hauge Lutheran Church and a member of the Kenyon Senior Citizens with whom she enjoyed playing bingo.
Norma loved being around people at church socials, family gatherings or other social functions. She also enjoyed traveling and took trips in the U.S. and abroad to Germany and Austria.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry (and Judy) Houglum of Kenyon, Dennis (and Kathy) Houglum of Kenyon, Kendall (and Hazel) Houglum of Onalaska, WI; grandchildren, Dean Houglum, Aimee Aase, Jon (and Christine) Houglum, Terry (and Ann) Houglum, David (and Dorinda) Houglum, Kevin (and Francesca) Houglum; 6 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret Houglum and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert; brothers, Raymond Burow, Ernest Burow; sisters, Elaine Jenson, Ada Kyllo.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm and at Hauge Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:30am to 10:30am. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10:30am at Hauge Lutheran Church with The Reverend Martin Horn officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon.
