Obituary

Norma Jeanne Shelstad, 88, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at District One Hospital, Faribault. Norma was born September 12, 1924 in Graceville, the daughter of D.N. and Clara (Pederson) Twait. Norma graduated from Chokio High School in 1942. She graduated from Concordia College with a degree in Home Economics in 1946. Following graduation she accepted the job of Home Extension Agent for Wilkin County in Breckenridge. She married John Shelstad January 1, 1949 in Chokio and the couple made their home in Mayville, ND. They moved to Kenyon in 1953 where they have made their home ever since. In retirement the couple bought a lake home on Ottertail Lake where they enjoyed many summers and time with their family. Norma was an exceptional homemaker. She focused on being a great mom and was always willing to help out with the work on the farm as needed. She was an excellent baker known for her fresh bread and cinnamon rolls. Norma hosted many family gatherings and made sure everyone was well taken care of. She loved the time she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren. Norma belonged to First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She had a very strong faith and enjoyed quilting in the Priscilla Club. She was also a member of the Round Table Club and the Literary Guild. Norma was a kind and generous person who was easy to get to know and loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband John Shelstad of Kenyon; daughters, Koreen (and Dale) Harstad of Dickinson, TX, Kirsten Shelstad of Albuquerque, NM, Kaia (and Bruce) Bergeson of Montevideo, Karla (and Jeff) Siem of Falcon Heights; son-in-law, Scott Hilleren of Duluth; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter, Kerry Hilleren; sons, Daniel Shelstad, Rolf Shelstad. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday, June 29 from 4pm to 7pm and at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sunday, June 30 from 12pm to 1pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 1pm at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with The Reverend Duane Everson officiating. Interment will be in the Vukku Cemetery in Foxhome.
