Obituary

Norman Verlyn Buck, 93, of Owatonna, died on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Timberdale Trace.

He was born March 24, 1932, in Arlington, Minnesota, the son of John and Odile (Schnackenberg) Buck. Norman grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. During school, he played on the football team and was the captain. After he graduated, he enlisted into the army and was honorably discharged. Norman worked at OTC in Mankato and while it was being moved to Owatonna, he met the love of his life, Joann, whom he married on September 9, 1961, at St. John Lutheran Church. He worked at OTC for a total of 40 years and burnt the candle at both ends. He and Joann bought a small farm and eventually bought Joann's family farm where they raised beef cattle. Their family farm was recognized as a Minnesota Century Farm in 1991. They were blessed with three boys.

In Norman's free time, he enjoyed watching football, always rooting for the Vikings, watching westerns, and watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. He also had a love for curling, winning the Men's Senior National with his brother, Orwin. He loved to fish, often fishing in Canada. He was involved in the community, being a member of the Eagles and the VFW. After Norman retired, him and Joann would travel to Breezy Point in the fall every year.

He is survived by his children, Daniel (Jennifer) Buck of Owatonna, David Buck of Owatonna, and Darin (Marianne) Buck of Lakeville; grandchildren, Brandon (Karissa) Buck, Nicole (Tristen Frank) Buck, Tory (Aaron Hix) Buck, Reese Buck, Caleb (Cassy) Buck, Elisabeth (Cameron) Marquardt, Mariam Buck, Ezra Buck, Gabby (Aaron) Jenkins, Amanda (Brandon) Pehrson, Natasha Buck, and Ethan Buck; great-grandchildren, Kynlee, Kenna, Lenny, Stella, Marlena, Lilith, Braxtin, Skyelar, Wrenlee, Otto, and Wade; and brother, John (Debra) Buck.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann; parents, John and Odile; siblings, Orwin (Dee), Geraldine (Orville) Kroells, and Merlyn (Marvilla); and great-granddaughter, Camille.

A funeral service will be held on March 17, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna, at 11 am with a visitation one hour prior. He will be laid to rest at Owatonna Memorial Gardens.

Memorials preferred to Steele County 4-H, the Owatonna Curling Club, or St. John Lutheran Church.
