Norman F. Francis, 86, of Owatonna, died peacefully Thursday, August 7, 2014 at his home.
He was born December 25, 1927 in Klemme, Iowa the son of Fred and Mabel (Indvik) Francis. He attended school in Iowa and later entered the Army Air Force in March 26, 1945, and did his training at Keesler Field, Mississippi. He trained as an airplane and truck mechanic specialist. While serving, he was stationed at Hamilton Field, California where he received his honorable discharge in April 1947.
Norman was united in marriage to Kathy Ann Dusbabek in Steele County in 1953 and from this union had three children, Gary, Gloria and Bruce. Norman owned and operated a gas station for several years in Owatonna. He fixed outboard motors at Coast to Coast Store and also worked for the City of Owatonna for 32 years until his retirement.
Norman was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Eagles Club and American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending opening of fishing with his two sons up North. He also enjoyed fixing outboard motors, farming and taking trips to various casinos. Mostly though, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Kathryn Ann Francis of Owatonna; son, Gary (and Delia) of Waseca; daughter, Gloria (and Ross) Jacobson of Janesville, WI; son, Bruce (and Bonnie) Francis of Owatonna; two brothers, Dean (and Pat) Francis of Owatonna; Kenneth (and Carol) Francis of Grants Pass, OR. Norman also leaves nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews to mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Donna Bunday and Barbara Warhurst.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, August 11, 2014, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Intern Pastor Christopher Leach officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
