Norton M. Ronning 91, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Kenyon Sunset Home, Kenyon, Minn. He was born January 22, 1920, in Kenyon Township, Goodhue County, Minn., on the family farm, the son of Norman and Marie (Hilling) Ronning. Norton attended school until age 15 when he joined and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp for one year, before returning home and graduating from Kenyon High School. He then attended Dunwoody Technical College before enlisting and serving in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. Norton was a Flight Engineer First Class, with Patrol Squad 214, aboard a PBM Mariner floatplane. Their primary missions were hunting submarines and providing escorts in the Caribbean. After his service to our country, he attended school in Chicago to become an electrician, an occupation he very much enjoyed. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 110. Norton married Donna Knowlton on Aug. 19, 1962 and moved back to the family farm where he was born. After retirement in 1985 he kept busy on the farm and had many passions including, his D14 Allis Chalmers, telling stories, trapshooting, pheasant hunting, his many beloved hunting dogs, especially his last dog, Lady, that won many trophies including 3 state championships. Norton was a member of the Kenyon VFW Post 141, and the Kenyon Sportsman Club. He is survived by his wife, Donna Ronning of Kenyon; son David (Kaye) Ronning of Lakeville; granddaughters Michelle (Christopher) Stanke of Faribault, Nichole (David) Romagna of St. Pete Beach, FL; great grandchildren, Rae Ann, Mariah, Erica and Hunter Stanke all of Faribault He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 siblings, Thelma (Green), Glenn, Francis, Orpha (Sanborn), Norman (Norton''s twin), Phillip, Marilyn, Neale and Jocelyn (Wellberg). Visitation will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon on Saturday, March 5 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, funeral services immediately following at 2:00 PM at the church. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery with military honors provided by Kenyon Color Guard. The family suggests donations go to Kenyon VFW/Operation Uplink. Arrangements by Michaelson Funeral Home.
