Odean L. Floren, 90, of Kenyon, died Monday, October 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 4, 1927 in Faribault, Minnesota the son of Louis and Erline (Howe) Floren. At age 15 he had his own milk route collecting milk from area farmers. He was drafted and went in the service for 2 years where he served in Japan. He worked at cleaning up in the area where the bomb was dropped for about 3 weeks until the Army learned he could drive truck. That's what his job was from then on until he was discharged. Once home, he continued his truck hauling until he met Joyce Johnson and they were married in 1950. Together they farmed in Kenyon until their retirement and stayed on the farm and enjoyed taking care of it. They also owned a cabin on Roosevelt Lake in Outing, MN where they, their family and grandkids spent many enjoyable days fishing, playing games, and just being together. They also spent many winters in Arizona where he enjoyed relaxing, playing cards and making deals in real estate. He recently said and I quote "I have been very lucky throughout my life". He always treated everyone the way he would want to be treated.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joyce Floren of Kenyon; four children, Dave (Cheri) Floren of Kenyon, Kathy (Kevin) Gunhus of Lake City, Jeff (Debee) Floren of Kenyon, and Beverly (Bryan) Wiuff of Des Moines, IA; 16 grandchildren, Kyle Floren of St. Paul, Kirk (Sarah) Floren of Dover, Trevor (Jenny) Floren of Lakevilla, IL, Taylor Floren of St. Paul, Jenny (Derrick) Casper of St. Charles, Ryan Gunhus and Missy Gunhus of Lake City, Jessica (Darin) Johnson of Kenyon, Joshua (Amy) Floren of Sauk Rapids, Greg (Mandie) Floren of Washington State, Sarah (Brian) Christensen of Kenyon, Robert Floren of Elk River, Ben (Rachel) Wiuff of Shawnee, KS, Brett (Sara) Wiuff of Manson, IA, Brina (Casey) Coppi of Des Moines, IA, and Brooke (Dan) Shea of Ames, IA; 34 great grandchildren; brother, Norval (Marlene) Floren of Nerstrand and extended family.
