Obituary

Orvis L. Johnson, 81, of Owatonna, died Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Homestead Hospice House. Orvis was born November 15, 1933 in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota the son of Ernest and Zeta (Rollins) Johnson. At a young age, Orvis moved with his family to Owatonna. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1951. While in high school, Orvis joined the Army National Guard. He then served during the Korean War and received his honorable discharge in October 1953. He continued on with the National Guard until 1954. Orvis was united in marriage to Elaine Bakken on October 2, 1959 at Assembly God Church in Ellendale. The couple made their home in Owatonna where he worked for the Owatonna Public Utilities as a lineman and meter foreman. He later worked for Federated Insurance. He loved gardening, flowers and working in his yard. He loved working in the church and serving as a deacon for several years. He also served on three church building committees, the last one being for Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church. He was devoted to his family. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. He really enjoyed attending their concerts and recitals. He also enjoyed going to the country and spending time at his son's home. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Elaine Johnson of Owatonna; a son, Dave (and Suzy) Johnson of Pine Island; and four grandchildren. Celeste Johnson of Spokane, WA; Evan LeRoy Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; Isaac Johnson of Nashville, TN; and Annika Johnson of Pine Island. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and a sister. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Brian Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
