Obituary

Owen P. Minter, 80, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully after a two year battle with kidney cancer on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Homestead Hospice House. He was born July 20, 1930 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Roy and Madeline (Gasner) Minter. Owen graduated from Owatonna High School with the class of 1948, and started working at Elwood Star Cleaners. He served with the United States Army from 1951 until 1953 being honorably discharged. Owen then returned to Owatonna and continued working for Elwood''s until his retirement at age sixty five. He married Donna Mae Johnson May 7, 1955 at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. In his retirement Owen worked as a custodian at Trinity Lutheran for seven years. Owen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as an usher since 1974. An avid Owatonna High School sports fan, Owen followed football, basketball, wrestling, and volleyball; he also enjoyed playing cards, gardening, fishing, and going to watch his grandchildren's events. Owen will be sadly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife Donna Mae Minter of Owatonna; children Doug (Sandi) Minter of St. Peter, Brian Minter, and Sheila Minter both of Owatonna, three grandchildren Mark Minter, Kristin (Dan) Lingen, and Erik Minter, and brother Roy (Mary Jo) Minter of Willmar. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ronald Minter. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday November 17, 2010 from 4-7 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday from 10-11 AM. Funeral services will be held Thursday November 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend John Lestock officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Owatonna Dialysis Unit.
