Patricia R. Kern, age 77, of Balsam Lake, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Frederic, WI. Patricia was born on March 27, 1943, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Steven and Dorothy (Patten) Schubert. She graduated from Owatonna High School. Patricia worked at Brown Printing, Viracon and later at a local nursing home. She married Robert Szymanski and they had three children. They later divorced. She remarried Joseph Kern and made their home in Owatonna. They had three children. Patricia moved to Waseca for a short period before moving to Alma and Balsam Lake, WI with her significant other, Mark Grinols. Patricia enjoyed traveling, watching movies and word finds. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Patricia is survived by her children, Debra Szymanski of Brooklyn Park, Jim Szymanski of Faribault, Brenda Tovar of Kasson, Sue Kern of Austin, Kim Kern of Brownsdale and Mary Kern of Waseca; grandchildren, Amanda Carlson, Tyler Carlson, Brianna Carlson, Brandon Szymanski, Maria Tovar, Juan Tovar Jr., Jose Reyes, Guillermo Reyes, and Brittney Clemmens; six great-grandchildren; and sister Delores (Darrell) Jones. Patricia is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her parents Steve and Dorothy Schubert. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM prior to the service. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Father Jim Starasinich officiating.
