Paul J. Stoltz, 82, of Rochester, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Golden Living Center East in Rochester.
Paul was born June 16, 1932 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Henry and Laura (Kruesel) Stoltz. He attended Owatonna High School where he excelled at track and field and basketball. For this he was recognized and inducted into the Owatonna Hall of Fame in 2005. After high school, Paul entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War from 1952 until 1954. During his service, he played basketball overseas. Following the service, Paul attended Mankato State University where he received his Bachelor's degree. He also played college basketball for Mankato.
Paul was united in marriage to Barbara Terpstra on November 6, 1954 at United Methodist Church, Owatonna. He worked for Jostens and later for OTC as an industrial engineer. Following his employment at OTC, Paul worked part time for Steele County. The couple moved to Rochester in 1998. There he worked as a security guard at the Rochester Airport.
Paul loved watching sports. He was also a carpenter and would work on additions and remodels around the house. He helped coach sports and in his earlier years, he enjoyed playing softball and bowling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Stoltz of Rochester; a daughter, Cheryl (and James) Edstrom of Owatonna; three sons, Gregory (and Shannon) Stoltz of Katy, TX; Randall (and Betty) Stoltz of Rochester; Robert (and Sue ) Stoltz of Waseca; a daughter-in-law, Kris Knudsen of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers, Art Stoltz of Owatonna; Glen Stoltz of Owatonna; and two sisters, Wilma Haberman of Ellendale and Jean (and Robert) Weber of Owatonna.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Stoltz; his parents; a sister, Gloria Schuler and a brother, Eldon Stoltz.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Michaelson Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Philip Elson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
