Paula Leonard, 72, of Owatonna, formerly of St. Louis Park, died peacefully Friday, September 6, 2013 at Homestead Hospice House surrounded by family and friends. Paula was born April 10, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota the daughter of Donald and Bette (Johnston) Schmidt. As a young child, she moved with her family to Minneapolis where she grew up. She married Patrick Campion and the couple had three children, Cherlyn, Patricia and Michael. The couple later divorced. Paula worked as a waitress in various restaurants and hotels including, Embers, the American Legion, the Registry Hotel and Decathlon Athletic Club in Bloomington. She also worked at the Courage Center in Golden Valley. She was later married to John Lockwood who preceded her in death. On June 26, 1993, Paula was united in marriage to Greg Leonard. The couple made their home in Owatonna. Paula worked for the Owatonna Care Center and Cedarview Nursing Home. She retired in 2000. Paula enjoyed many things like playing cribbage and other card games, watching game shows, listening to gospel music and dancing. She looked beautiful on the dance floor. Her faith was also very important to her. She was able to take a trip with her sister Claudia to Israel and was baptized in the River Jordan. Most important to Paula was the love of her husband, her children, grandchildren and family. Paula will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband Greg Leonard of Owatonna; her daughters Cheri (and Laine) Olson of Maple Lake; Patti (and Billy) Maxwell in Australia; a son Mike (and Marie) Campion of Minneapolis; a step-son Brandon Eugene of Duluth; a sister Claudia Ferrer of Buffalo; a half brother Alan Johnston of Proctor; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother Dorothy Schmidt. Visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Braucht officiating. Memorials are preferred to the family.
