Pearl E. Bathel, 96, of Claremont, most recently of Minneapolis, died peacefully Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Catholic Eldercare in Minneapolis. She was born July 25, 1921 in Wabasha, Minnesota the daughter of Louis and Veronica (Funke) Nipp. She graduated from Wabasha High School in 1938 and Winona State in 1942. Following her schooling, she taught school in Claremont from 1942 to 1949. On June 28, 1947, she married Donald Bathel at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Claremont. Pearl was a devoted wife and mother raising her children from 1949 to 1966. Then in 1966 she also began her career at the Security State Bank in Claremont until she retired in 1987. She also substitute taught when needed while she was raising her family and working at the bank. Pearl was very involved in her community serving on the school board and tutoring her children and other students at her kitchen table. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening (canning much of her produce), baking and decorating Holiday cookies, especially with her grandchildren. She was also well known for her sweet rolls and dinner rolls, was a Cub Scout leader, enjoyed fishing with her husband and family, and in retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband and needle work. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and Ladies Aid and the Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by children, Marlene (and Duane) Bergdale of Albert Lea, Linda Bathel (and John Capaul) of Minneapolis and Daniel Bathel of New Brighton; three grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew and Michael and four great-grandchildren, Zehren, Jonathan, Lindy and Kierlyn. She was preceded in death by her parents; Louis and Veronica; husband, Donald Bathel (11/1/2005); sons, Darryl (11/2/2010) and Dave (11/7/2014); and siblings, Harold, Esthyr, Robert and Joanne Nipp. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2017 with visitation one hour prior all at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Claremont with Father Thomas Niehaus officiating.
