She grew up in Verndale and graduated from Verndale high school. She graduated from the University of Minnesota and went on to be an English and Reading teacher. Prior to teaching English for 23 years at Owatonna Junior High School, Phyllis taught in Pine City, Mapleton, and St. Cloud. Phyllis married Glenn Dewey Edin on July 10, 1954. They lived in Minnesota Lake for 3 years while Glenn taught Agriculture in Minnesota Lake and Phyllis taught middle schoolers in Mapleton. In 1957 they moved to Owatonna to continue their teaching careers. They raised two children in Owatonna, Scott and Pamela. Phyllis had many interests but her grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved to read, travel and spend time with wonderful friends. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, P.E.O. and passionately involved with a local Book Club and Bridge Club. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Church. Phyllis touched many people throughout her life, whether it be family, friends or students; she loved listening to people and she was intently focused on their every word. Phyllis is survived by her son, Scott (and Roberta) Edin of Amery, WI; daughter, Pamela (and Tim) Murphy of Libertyville, IL; grandchildren Erik, Dani, Jake, Brittany and Ashley; her big brother, Robert King and nieces and nephews. Phyllis had many close friends whom she treasured. She also had three special friends, Richard, Kathy & Jim, whom she referred to as angels, as they helped her with daily household responsibilities allowing her to keep her home while living at The Brooks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn and infant grandson, Bryan Dewey Edin. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4pm to 7pm and at United Methodist Church on Saturday from 2pm to 3pm.
