Phyllis Athalene Engbard, 80, of Owatonna, died Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Birchwood Cottages in North Mankato.
She was born July 28, 1938 in Breckenridge, Minnesota the daughter of Paul and Adeline (Bolstad) Syverson. She attended country school at Ibsen #5 in Richland County, North Dakota, graduated from Wahpeton High School, and earned her four-year degree at Concordia College. She began her teaching career in Litchfield, MN and continued teaching in Owatonna, where she met her husband, Duane Engbard. The couple married on July 24, 1965 at her home church in Galchutt, North Dakota.
Phyllis and Duane enjoyed shopping for Rosemeade pottery, which was made in Wahpeton. They were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Owatonna.
She is survived by daughters, Karla (and Jayson) Santi of Sioux Falls and Kirsten (and Doug) Lewandowski of North Mankato; grandchildren, Allison, Jessica, Megan and Mackenzie Lewandowski and Jakson and Kamryn Santi; sister, Shirley (and Russell) Christensen of Wahpeton; niece, Wendy (and Hamid) Erfanian of Long Valley, NJ and nephew, Kyle (and Tertia) Christensen of Wahpeton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Engbard and her parents, Paul and Adeline Syverson.
Visitation will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Friday, March 1st from 10-11am. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 1, 2019, at 11am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Owatonna with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in Dania Cemetery in Havana Township.
