Phyllis Elaine Grant, 83, of Kenyon, died Friday, December 27, 2019, at her home. She was born March 20, 1936, in Faribault, the daughter of James and Lillian (Romo) Lawson. Phyllis grew up in Wanamingo near Aspelund. She graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1954 and completed nursing training school in Red Wing. On November 23, 1956, she married Richard "Dick" Grant in Iowa. They lived in Hastings and Cannon Falls before making their home on the family farm in rural Dennison. Phyllis was a nurse at the Kenyon Sunset Home for over 30 years. Dick passed away in 1994. Phyllis then moved to Arizona where she worked as a nurse at a prison in Florence, AZ. She retired at the age of 69 ½. Phyllis returned home to Kenyon to be closer to her family. Phyllis was a friend to everyone of all ages. She enjoyed fishing, cooking and baking especially Norwegian desserts. She volunteered at the local food shelf and All Season's thrift store. She was always busy working on projects including jewelry making. Phyllis was known for being very caring and supportive to her family and friends. She welcomed people into her home where she cared for and helped them through difficult times. Phyllis was a member at Gol Lutheran Church where she was active in the quilting circle. She is survived by her children, Norma Kalina of Claremont, Jon (Mary) Grant of Kenyon, Bill Grant of Dennison, Rose (Martin Dennis) Grant of Sioux Falls, SD and Cecilia (Charles) Wright of Richfield; grandchildren, Joshua and Rebecca Kalina, Liz Liebenstein, Serianna Wall, Leif Grant, Lillian, Richard and Eleanor Dennis; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Norlene (Evans) Josephson. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard "Dick" Grant; daughter, Theresa Grant who died in 1998; parents, James and Lillian; infant sister and step-father, Alvin Aakre; Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Monday, December 30, 2019, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Gol Lutheran Church with Pastor Marvin Kormann officiating. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kenyon.
