Ramah R. Rypka, 91, of Owatonna, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Homestead Hospice House.
Ramah was born February 12, 1923 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Herman and Francis (Benedict) Arndt. Ramah attended country school and later Owatonna High School graduating in 1941. She was united in marriage to Edward L. Rypka on October 15, 1944 at St. John Lutheran Church. She worked at the State School as a cook and also for the Pink Pantry at the Owatonna Hospital. Edward died April 16, 1998.
Ramah was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and gardening. She loved to cook and bake, particularly her New Year''s Bread. Embroidery and mending clothes were also things that kept her busy as well as following baseball. She loved following all of her grandchildren''s events and activities. She collected cardinal''s statues and enjoyed watching the wildlife, especially the geese. Ramah had a love for music as well. With Edward playing in local bands, she enjoyed listening to him and his band play over the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy (and Ron) Schroht of Owatonna; three sons, Tom (and LuAnn) Rypka of Owatonna; Mark (and Carol) Rypka of Owatonna; Todd Rypka of Cannon Falls; 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Ramah is also survived by a sister, Frances Hall of Los Banos, CA; and two brothers, Irwin (and Donna) Arndt of Owatonna and John (and Shari) Arndt of Owatonna.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; seven brothers and four sisters.
Later in the evening, after her death, a great granddaughter noticed a large amount of lightning in the sky, her comment was that it wasn''t lightning, but that they are taking photos of the new family in heaven.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Peter Strommen officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
