Obituary

Raymond Langer, 84, of Owatonna, died Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. He was born October 23, 1929 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Joseph and Margot (Sneve) Langer. He attended school at Owatonna High School and graduated in 1948. Raymond married his high school sweetheart, Lilias Piepho, in October 29, 1950 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and they have been together for 63 wonderful years. He served with the National Guard and then was called to active duty with the United States Army. He received his honorable discharge on November 10, 1951. Raymond worked at the National Tea grocery store in 1954 as a manager for 4 years. Then he worked at Jostens as a foreman and supervisor until his retirement in 1992. He was also the president of the Jostens employee club and a member of the Jesters at Jostens. Raymond was a Boy Scout leader in the 60's. He served as president of the Parent-Teacher Assocation at McKinley Elementary in 1965 and 1966. Raymond was very active at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he served as past president and on the church council. He loved camping, fishing, canoeing, golfing, and watching Minnesota sports. He is survived by his wife, Lilias Langer of Owatonna; his children, Debra (and Timothy) DeVries of Hartford, SD, and Murray (and Susan) Langer of Owatonna; 3 grandchildren, Sarah DeVries, Cody DeVries and Melissa Langer; extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Corey Langer, grandson, Joseph "Joey" Langer, three brothers, William, Durword, and Robert Langer, and two sisters, Abbey Langer and Geraldine Abbe. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Full military honors will be conducted by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
