Obituary

Raymond A. Pelinka, 94, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. He was born May 14, 1921 in Aurora Township, Steele County, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Ida (Pfeifer) Pelinka. He attended country school in Aurora Township. Ray enlisted into the Army on April 29, 1946 and was stationed in Manilla until his honorable discharge on September 9, 1947. He returned home and married Lenora Sexter on February 23, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church. They resided and farmed in Meriden Township until 1980. Lenora passed away on April 10, 1979. Raymond moved to Aurora Township and continued to farm until the age of 91. Raymond was also a realtor in Owatonna from 1983 to 1990. Raymond enjoyed tinkering with tractors, attending tractor pulls and Pioneer Power. He loved the land. He also enjoyed old time music and reading. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, life member of VFW, former member of Eagles and American Legion. He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Pelinka of Maple Grove; son, James (Mary Jo) Pelinka of Owatonna; special friend of many years, Jan Hobgood of Owatonna; four honorary children, Dale (Lynne) Hobgood of Owatonna, Diane (Steve) DeCoux of Owatonna, Danny (Tammy) Hobgood of Elk River, and Donna (Mike) Brage of Prior Lake; three grandchildren, Michael (Crystal ) Pelinka of Owatonna, Kari Pelinka of Owatonna, and Matthew (Leah) Pelinka Breit of Mankato; six honorary grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Webster, Amanda Hobgood, Kristi (Nick) Blum, and Kyle DeCoux all of Owatonna, Tyler Brage and Alex Brage of Prior Lake; four great grandchildren, Mason, Olivia, Madelyn, and Brynn; three honorary great grandchildren, MaKayla, Abbie, and Joe; his sister, Margie (John) Bechtel of Bloomington; many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lenora; sister, Gertrude Pelinka; brother, Frank Pelinka; honorary grandson, Joey Hobgood. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna with full military honors conducted by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House Patient Care Fund, Alzheimer's Association, or donor's choice.
