Raymond Arnold Truelson Jr., 71, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Koda Living Community in Owatonna.
He was born September 21, 1942 in Havelock, Iowa the son of Raymond and Anna (Klein) Truelson. In 1960, Ray graduated from Mallard High School Mallard, Iowa. After graduation he worked for Twin Draulics Inc. in Laurens, Iowa. He moved to Owatonna in 1963 and worked for Wenger Corporation for 45 years until his retirement in 2008. While working at Wenger Corporation some of Raymond's accomplishments included: Spirit - of - Wenger Award, Emergency Management of Excellence from Minnesota Public Safety, Recycling Award from Minnesota Waste Wise, State Energy Award, and Risk Control Plus 4 (the highest award given by an insurance company for an excellent safety program). Raymond became involved with the Jaycees and did so for 23 years and received the highest award within the Jaycees as a Jaycee International Senator. Raymond served with numerous boards and organizations throughout Owatonna and Steele County including: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church financial, Properties and Senior Housing Boards, Owatonna Planning Commission, Steele County Waste Education Advisory Committee, Regional Review Commission for the State of Minnesota, Steele County Project 20/20 Committee, Steering Committee for Project Impact, Commission Member for Owatonna Public Utilities, Founding of: Steele County Safety Council, Board of the Minnesota Pheasants, and Board Member of Steele County CAER. Raymond was also appointed to City of Owatonna Charter Commission. Ray served as a member of the City Council from 1986-1992 and 2009 to the present. Raymond also started something called Star of People, recognizing people for all of their hours of volunteering with over 100 recipients. Raymond loved Owatonna and the people who lived here. He was also a member of the Owatonna Eagles, and Elks. Ray also enjoyed spending time with his family, NASCAR, fishing, and riding motorcycle. He is survived by his twin brother Roland (Ann) Truelson of Owatonna, MN, Shirley (Jim) Bartosh of Pocahontas, IA, and twin sisters, Marilyn (Rodney) Meyer of Mallard, IA, and Martha Hueser of Marcus, IA and many niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- in- law Thomas Hueser and Virgil Botine, and nephew, Randy Hueser. As Raymond always said: Thanks For Caring About People.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday August 24, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Monday August 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with The Reverend Mark Rosenau and Reverend Greg Schlicker officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Owatonna Foundation, Owatonna Youth Scholarship Fund, or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Capital Campaign.
