Richard R. Chapman, 64, of Owatonna, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Homestead Hospice House. He was born May 29, 1947 in Oelwein, IA the son of Robert and Sheila (Murray) Chapman. Rick graduated from Valley High School in Elgin, IA and was drafted into the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army. After his service he went to Mankato State University to achieve a degree in accounting. He married Toni Hangartner and together they had a daughter Melissa. He later moved to Le Sueur and worked for Green Giant and then moved to Owatonna and worked for Jostens. Rick and Michelle met in 1986 and married on March 24, 1989. Before retiring Rick finished his career with Lakeside Foods. Rick enjoyed a good conversation with family and friends. He and Michelle liked to dance, particularly to rock and roll music. He also enjoyed calculating the odds while playing at the craps table. He is survived by his wife Michelle Chapman of Owatonna, daughter, Melissa Chapman of Minneapolis, step-son, Christopher (and Reda) Coates of Albertville. He is also survived by two brothers Jon (Carolyn) Chapman of Elgin, IA, Bryan (Dorene) Chapman of Buffalo, MN, and one sister Deb (Bob) Steinbronn of Mount Vernon, IA. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert and his parents. A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
