Richard "Dick" Joseph Schneider, 92, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
He was born February 2, 1933, in St. Peter, Minnesota, the son of John "Jack" and Emily (Von Esson) Schneider. He met the love of his life, Shirley Rishavy at Saint Augustine High School. After high school, he went on to serve in the Navy from 1952 – 1956. Richard and Shirley were united in marriage on October 16,1954. They were blessed with eight children together.
Richards main passion throughout his life was fishing on Lake Emily in Minnesota. He went on countless fishing trips with his sons and continued to do this through their adult life. He also loved model ships and model airplanes, having multiple rooms of his house dedicated to the models. When he wasn't fishing or spending time with his family, he could be found enjoying old westerns, specifically, John Wayne.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Catherine (Mark) Tacheny of Greentown, IN, Thomas (Lisa) Schneider of Eden Prairie, MN, Barbara (Dan) Gemmill of Mankato, MN, Jeanette (Todd) Petersen of Eagan, MN Jeanne (Jon) Fitterer of Mankato, MN, John (Becky) Schneider of Chaska, MN, David (Nate) Schneider of Minneapolis, MN, and Gretchen (Doug) Kiefer of Owatonna, MN; grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jennifer, Jessica, Jake, Sam, Amanda, Britney, Troy, Timothy, Emily, Zachary, Hayes, Jarrett, Joshua, and Alyssa; and 19 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Schneider.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, with a visitation one hour prior. Following the service, a luncheon will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota, after the luncheon.
