Richard Carl Erdman, 79, of Owatonna, died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Traditions I in Owatonna. He was born March 7, 1934 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Carl and Adeline (Glock) Erdman. He was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Richard graduated from Owatonna High School in 1952. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 8, 1952 where he served as a woodworker stationed both stateside and in Japan until his honorable discharge on September 7, 1956. He married Lois Lustig on September 6, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Richard worked at various businesses throughout his years. He began after the service, working alongside his brother at Lindekuegel Chevrolet in the parts department, Baldus Texaco Station as a mechanic, Steele County Implement in the Marina Department, and for over 24 years at Brown Printing in Waseca and retired in 1996. He was a lifelong member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He loved trap shooting and was a lifetime member of the Owatonna Gun Club. He also enjoyed working on cars and woodworking. Richard loved working with his hands and built their home in 1961. In later years, he enjoyed having coffee with his friends at HyVee. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lois Erdman of Owatonna; sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Erdman of Owatonna, Phyllis (and Bob) Johnson of Blooming Prairie, Sharon (and Scot) Cinnamon of Maricopa, AZ; two brothers-in-law, Richard (and Dorothy) Lustig of Owatonna and Ron (and Kathy) Lustig of Osage, IA; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Florence Krause, and brother Herbert Erdman. Visitation will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with The Reverend Kirk Griebel officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Military honors will be conducted by Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
