Richard Lyle Quaintance, 71, of Owatonna, died Friday, March 9, 2018 at St. Lucas Care Center, Faribault.
He was born January 17, 1947 in Hartley, Iowa the son of Lester and Viola (Wilcox) Quaintance. The family moved to Minnesota. Richard grew up on the family farm in Aurora Township where they raised Polled Hereford cattle. Richard graduated from Owatonna High School in 1965. He served in the US Army from May 1966 to May 1968 and was in the Vietnam conflict from October 1966 to October 1967. On November 30, 1968 Richard married Mary Pechacek at Associated Church in Owatonna. The couple had three children: Audrea, David and Deanna.
Richard worked for Floorcrafters and Nelson Decorating Center in Owatonna and Associated Lumber Mart in Waseca. Richard enjoyed working with and raising cattle, gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Quaintance of Owatonna; son, David (and Amy) Quaintance of Prior Lake; daughters, Audrea (and David) Horejsi of Ellendale, Deanna (and Phil) Knoll of Kasson; 6 grandchildren, Jack Quaintance of Duluth, Brendan Knoll of White Bear Lake, Rachel Horejsi of Ellendale, Easton Knoll of Kasson, Sam Quaintance of Prior Lake, Jordan Horejsi of Ellendale; sisters, Delores Brase of Owatonna, Bonnie (and Lee) Christensen of Hill City, SD and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by 5 siblings and one brother-in-law.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday, March 17 from 4pm to 7pm and at Associated Church on Sunday, March 18 from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 18 at 2pm at Associated Church with Pastor Jim D. Oberg officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Abbott Northwestern Heart Institute, Homestead Hospice Patient Care Fund or Minnesota Heart Association.
