Richard Dick Frederick Schuster, 84, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Koda Living Community. He was born July 17, 1933, in Beatrice, Nebraska the son of Frederick M. and Emma R. (Carstens) Schuster. Dick's family moved to Hastings, MN when he was 12. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1951. He attended the University of Minnesota graduating with a BA Degree in Advertising in 1955. He was a member of the ROTC program at the University of Minnesota and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. On July 14, 1956, Dick married Rosemary (Rosie) Ann Novak. Dick worked in advertising at Red Owl Foods in Hopkins, MN, before reporting to active duty with the Army. He worked for the St. Paul Pioneer Press after being discharged from active duty. In October 1958, Dick was hired by OTC. He retired in 1997, after 38 years with OTC and TRUTH HARDWARE. He served in the U.S. Army for a total of 29 years, most of his time with the U.S. Army Reserves and retired as a Major. Dick's faith, family and friends were very important to him. Things Dick was passionate about include sports, travel and service to his community. He was a member of the Lions Club, Elk's, Eagles, and American Legion Club. He is survived by his wife, Rosie; son, Steven (and Susanne) and granddaughters, Erica and Meghan; daughter, Darla and granddaughter, Samantha; son, Jeffrey (and Molly) and grandchildren, Kalie, Christian, Jenna; a great-grandson, Bennett; sister, Patricia Hill and brother, Kenneth (Albina) Schuster. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Sunday, May 6th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and at church on Monday one hour prior to the service. A Celebration of Life will be held May 7, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna with The Reverend Amanda Weinkauf officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church Youth, Owatonna Foundation and The Lions Club.
