Richard Leroy Smith, 81 of Owatonna, died Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Homestead Hospice House. He was born February 19, 1937, in Rochester, Minnesota the son of Clarence and Laura (Smith) Smith. He grew up in Rochester where he attended school. Richard worked at a number of places including, AMPI Dairy, drove truck for Carl Ulrich, farmhand for Louis Wildin, Climbers Ltd. Construction, Libby's, Crown Cork & Seal, Owatonna Park and Rec. and Owatonna Public Utilities. Richard enjoyed having coffee with family and friends, playing Rummy 500, trips up north to Duluth, fishing, joking with people and making them laugh and mechanical work on cars. He is survived by his fianc�©, Jan Martin of Medford; children, Jennifer Smith, Chad Lee, Allan Smith and Cheryl Smith; sister, Shirley Louks of Claremont; 7 grandchildren, Michelle Lee, Felicity Lee, Sadie Smith, Cory Puterbaugh, Jordan Puterbaugh, Rylie Smith and Jaxon Steele and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Jenkins; brother-in-law, Chub Louks and nephew Dale Louks. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Resurrection Cemetery, rural Medford. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
