Obituary

Richard G. Youngquist, age 87, of Kenyon, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Kenyon Sunset Home. Richard was born February 22, 1928 in Fullerton, North Dakota the son of Henning and Hilda (Olson) Youngquist. At a young age, he moved with his family to a farm near Ogilvie, Minnesota and there was raised and attended school. Richard enlisted in the US Navy on February 2, 1946 and served during WWII on the USS Antietam. He received his honorable discharge in December of 1947 and proudly received the Victory Medal and Philippine Independence Medal. Following the service, Richard moved to Minneapolis. He was united in marriage to Delores Eilola on November 11, 1950 in Minneapolis. Richard worked for Greyhound Bus, Life Underwriters Insurance and also for Home Builders Marketing. The couple moved to Kenyon in 2006. Delores died in February 2015. Richard served as a Boy Scout Leader and enjoyed the outdoors, canoeing and running. As a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale, Richard served as Sunday School Superintendent. He also taught Sunday school for over 50 years. He was also Toastmaster for over 50 years, was a member of the Optimist Club and served on the board of Luther Park Bible Camp. He is survived by five children, Robyn Orman of Big Lake, Cheryl Kauffmann (and Ivan Anderson) of Echo, Linnea (and Tom) Sahl of Kenyon, Rick (and Theresa) Youngquist of Longmont, CO, and Scott Youngquist of Bemidji; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Edmund (and Rose Nell) Youngquist of Northfield; David (and Doris) Youngquist of Annandale; and a sister, Helen Schmidt of Danville, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores (2015), his parents, a great grandson, Mason, and three sisters, Mary Hazard, Ethel Blackwood and Dorothy Johnson. Visitation will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon.
