Obituary

Robert B. Bowman, 94, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Cedarview Care Center. He was born January 22, 1914 in Osceola, Iowa the son of Jerome 'Dyce' and Elsie (Bellman) Bowman. Bob moved with his family at a young age to Cresbard, SD where he graduated from high school, after high school he worked at various jobs during the depression. He then attended Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD, and at the outbreak of WWII Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, and served eight years part of that time as a signalman aboard ships on the Pacific Ocean. After WWII he attended an art school in Chicago, and became a commercial artist, where he later was employed with Jostens Art and Design Department. He married Florence Gray January 19, 1947. He later married Hazel Soufal June 26, 1976. After retirement Bob continued doing some free lance art drawing, calligraphy and later water color painting as a hobby. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, life member of the VFW and American Legion, and a past member of the Steele County Military Color Guard; he was also a charter member of the Owatonna Art Center. Bob is survived by wife Hazel, two children Robert E. Bowman of Rochester and Linda (Earl) Butenhoff of Medford, two grandchildren Erick and Brent Eschenbach. He is also survived by three sisters Helene Ford of Sioux Falls, SD, Maxine Kunz of Rapid City, SD, and Ruth (Don) Cullen of Helena, MT, step daughter Carol (Jack) Weinberger of Faribault, eight step grandchildren , thirteen step great grandchildren and aunt Bernice Bellman of Davenport, IA. His first wife Florence and stepdaughter Judith Winter preceded him in death. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday February 20, 2008 at St. John Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dave Klawiter officiating, visitation will be Tuesday February 19, 2008 from 4-8 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery with honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
