Robert "Bob" C. Forbes, 92, of Owatonna, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Valley View in Owatonna. He was born January 28, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Charles and Martha (Anderson) Forbes. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis and attended Chiropractic School. He enlisted in the United States Navy on November 5, 1942 and was stationed in the South Pacific. Bob served as a Seabee and also served as the assistant to the Chaplain. He was honorably discharged on October 21, 1945. He married Margie Coyour on January 12, 1942 at Minnehaha Baptist Church, Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis until 1962, when they moved to Owatonna. They were co-owners of Owatonna Nursing Home until 1977. Bob then worked various part-time jobs in Owatonna and recently was a greeter at Salvation Army. Bob was a man of strong faith. He accepted Christ at Minnehaha Baptist Church, Minneapolis. He was an active volunteer for the churches he was involved in including Bethel Baptist Church and currently Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, handi-work; including weaving rugs and needlepoint. He was a Twins and Vikings fan. Throughout the years, he enjoyed spending his summers with his family at French Lake in Faribault and winters in Florida. In 2011, Bob was chosen for the Southeast Minnesota Honor Flight. He is survived by his children, Nancy (and Jim) Elsbecker of Owatonna, Jack (and Brenda) Forbes of Naples, FL, and Jeff Forbes of Owatonna; honorary daughter, Pat Bluem of Byron; six grandchildren, Mindy (and Erik) Molin of Roseville, Jana (and Jeremy) Mickelson of Owatonna, Andy (and Melissa) Forbes of Cottage Grove, Wendy Forbes of Washington D.C., Ho Neang of Eden Prairie, and Chea Sok of Bloomington; honorary grandchildren, Bob and Sandra Bluem; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Dee Beckett of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Margie (1998), grandson, Robert Elsbecker, and sister Audrey. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held January 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Brian Wright officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Steele County Military Funeral Unit following the service. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
