Robert Dean Monahan, 83, of Nisswa, formerly of Owatonna, died Friday, August 26, 2016 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living, Baxter. He was born January 26, 1933 in Henry, South Dakota the son of Floyd and Mary (Susanka) Monahan. In 1951, Bob graduated from Lake Benton High School prior to attending South Dakota State University from where he received his Agriculture Education Degree in 1955. After serving in the ROTC program during college he enlisted in the US Army serving his country from 1955 to 1959 of which 2 years were spent in Japan. Bob married Arlene Hemme Dec. 27, 1958 in Hardwick. Bob worked in the claims department at Federated Insurance for 36 years retiring in 1994. Bob was humbled by the opportunity he was given during his career to hire many great people to work at Federated. In 2013, he and Arlene moved to Nisswa. Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna and later Cross Lake Lutheran Church. He is a former volunteer with Owatonna Basketball Association, loved hunting and fishing, and was a sports fan. He loved spending time with his family and was privileged to be involved in his grandchildren's lives. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Monahan of Nisswa; daughter, Nancy (and Mark) Mukomela of Lakeville; son, Michael (and Shari) Monahan of Breezy Point; grandchildren, Karli Monahan, Ryan Monahan of Breezy Point; sister, Phyllis Kuhn of Lake Benton and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marlys and one infant daughter. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday from 9am to 10am. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2016 at 10am at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Todd Buegler officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or to the donor's choice.
