Robert Bob Edward Dohrmann, 80, of West Concord, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester following an extended illness. He was born January 22, 1938, in West Concord, Minnesota, the son of Wilhelm and Theresa (Napp) Dohrmann. He attended country school in Eagle Valley. He served in the United States Navy as a Gunner's Mate Third Class on the USS Tarawa (CVS-40) from February 21, 1956, until his honorable discharge on January 6, 1960. On July 2, 1960, Bob married Donna Mae Vrieze at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Pine Island, West Concord and then at their current home in rural Mantorville and had five children. Bob's work career included hauling milk for Marv Carney, working for Fred and Margaret O'Brien at the Concord Store as a butcher, Frank Mathias Dairy Cattle Exchange as a cattle truck driver, and as a custodian at Triton School District from which he retired. Bob loved his vegetable garden. He would begin planning in January, paging through many seed catalogs. He also had a beautiful wild flower bed. Raising Heritage turkeys was a highlight for Bob. He generously shared them with many people in the area. In his younger years, he played softball and bowled on a league and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. His steel plasma cut-out-silhouettes were very popular. He also enjoyed attending the 4-H and FFA beef shows that his children and grandchildren were involved in. He is survived by his wife, Donna Dohrmann of West Concord; children, Dawn (Duane) Miller of Dodge Center, Kevin (Debbie) Dohrmann of Kasson, Julie (Craig) Koop of Pine Island, Bradley (Sheryl) Dohrmann of Dodge Center, and Rhonda Dohrmann of Dodge Center; nine grandchildren, Nathan (Heather), Bryce (Adrienne), Mark, Eric (Erica), Keith, Tyler (Jennifer), Chelsea, Courtney, and Devin; ten great-grandchildren, Stella, Lucy, Clay, Lanna, Alexis, Addilyn, Temperance, Wyatt, Levi, and Hailey; sisters, Gladys Hopkins of West Concord, Phyllis (Don) Schutz of Pine Island and Adeline Schletty of West Concord. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill (Phyllis) Dohrmann and Royce Dohrmann; sister, June (Rudy) Shanks; brothers-in-law, Rollie Schletty, Earl Hopkins and Tom Vrieze and sisters-in-law Marian Olson and Vivian Vrieze. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord Chapel on Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 16, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Concord Church of Christ with Pastor Peter Moen officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Island Cemetery in Pine Island. Memorials are preferred to the West Concord Fire and Ambulance or the donor's choice.
