Robert Duane Dyrdahl of Kenyon, passed away on Monday April 12, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester Minnesota at the age of 92. Bob, the son of Martin and Olianna (Gunderson) Dyrdahl was born October 22, 1928 in a log cabin in Monkey Valley just outside of Kenyon. He was baptized at Hauge Lutheran Church in December 1928 where he remained a life-long member. He attended country school and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1946. He grew up with three older sisters on a 160-acre farm in Richland Township in rural Kenyon and when Bob was old enough, he farmed with his dad. The farm has been in the Dyrdahl family continuously since 1874 when his great grandfather, Nils Anderson Dyrdahl was the first person to ever till the soil on the land. The farm was given the designation of a Minnesota Century Farm in 1974 and remains in the family today through his sons Richard and Steven. Bob met his wife, LaVonne Magee also of Kenyon in 1954 and married in 1955 at Gol Lutheran Church in Kenyon. They enjoyed spending time with friends and Bob participated in several bowling leagues. They continued to live on the farm and together they raised five boys and two girls and enjoyed attending sporting and school events over their many years of having kids in Kenyon Schools. Bob continued to farm and succeeded his dad on the Moland Creamery Board and also served on the Steele County Creamery Board. When his dad passed away, he decided to farm only part time and eventually rented out the land. Bob started working at McQuay Company in Faribault, MN in 1973 and remained there until he retired in 1991. He was a proud member of the Sheetmetal Workers Union Local 480. Bob and LaVonne moved to town (Kenyon) in 1987 to a home where interestingly, Bob's grandparents, and Uncle Pete and Aunt Anna Dyrdahl had once lived. Lavonne's parents, Frank and Myrtle Magee later bought and renovated the home and lived there for over 10 years. When LaVonne's parents passed away, Bob and LaVonne moved into the home and still live there today. In retirement, though-out his 70's and 80's Bob continued to stay busy, primarily by delivering papers for the Faribault Daily News and the Rochester Post Bulletin. He was named Rochester Post Bulletin Carrier of the year in 2011 and enjoyed attending the banquet with all the other much younger carriers. Over the years, Bob and LaVonne enjoyed traveling together and spent their 25th anniversary in Hawaii. They traveled to several states across the country including both coasts to visit their children. They took a cruise to the Panama Canal and a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Norway. Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and it seems the tradition of having boys carried on to the next generation with his seven grandsons and one grand-daughter. Bob was dedicated to his faith and served on the Old Stone Church Board for over 45 years which was a special place for his family. As it was for most, 2020 was a challenging year, however Bob was grateful that his son Ross was able to come home to Minnesota to live with them and help care for him. He is survived by his wife LaVonne of Kenyon, his children, Richard Dyrdahl of Northfield, Steve Dyrdahl (Stephanie Hardcastle), Scott Dyrdahl and Ross Dyrdahl, all of Kenyon; Jaye Dyrdahl (Jenni) of Faribault, Heidi Carrozzella (Anthony) of Minneapolis, MN and son-in-law John Smith of Collingswood, New Jersey, His grandchildren, Billy Dyrdahl of Kenyon, Andrew Dyrdahl (Tanya) of Northfield, Eric Dyrdahl of Equador, Jared (Miranda) of Stanchfield, MN, Faith Dyrdahl of Faribault, MN, Sean Dyrdahl and Cody (Morgan) Dyrdahl of Rochester, and Casey Anderson of Minneapolis, MN. Great-grandchildren, Wynn, Effie and Sogn Dyrdahl and a baby girl expected in April. Sisters, Norma Jacobson of Kenyon, MN; Olive Anthony of Waseca, MN. Brother and sister-in-laws, Mark and Carol Hegseth and Bobby and Linda Magee of Kenyon, and many nieces and nephews as well as very special extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Olianna Dyrdahl, his daughter Keri Dyrdahl Smith, great-grandson Edison, his sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Virgil Lair and brothers-in-law Sam Jacobson and Jim Anthony. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2 pm at Hauge Lutheran Church in Kenyon with visitation one hour before the service. Coffee and fellowship will follow immediately at the Dyrdahl family home at 429 Third Street, Kenyon, MN. Interment will be at the Old Stone Church at a later date. Memorials preferred to the Old Stone Church.
