Robert Charles Mensing, 84, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.
He was born June 26, 1933 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Alvin and Helen (Erno) Mensing. He grew up in Owatonna and in his younger years worked at Owatonna Canning Company. He was united in marriage to Marcella Chesney on May 4, 1953. The couple lived in the Twin Cities where Robert worked for the Rock Island and Chicago Northwestern Railroad companies. He was employed with the railroad for 39 and a half years. As a couple, Robert and Marcella enjoyed dancing and fishing. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing Pinochle and Pheffer and in his younger years he enjoyed watching Nascar, the Twins and All-star Wrestling. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and visiting with everyone. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club.
He is survived by daughter, Jody (Mark) Madsen of Owatonna; granddaughter, Courtney (Brandon) Halstead of Owatonna; grandson, Justin Madsen of Owatonna; siblings, Ronald (Norma) Mensing of Owatonna, Larry (Kathy) Mensing of Faribault, Joanne Marik of Faribault, Ramona (Robert) Gedicke of Owatonna and Pauline Loveless of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Helen; wife, Marcella and siblings, Dorothy Robison, Donald Mensing and Jean Zak.
A Memorial Service will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 7, 2017 with visitation one hour prior. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.
Memorials are preferred to Steele County Humane Society or the family.
