Robert H. Meyer, 81, of Owatonna, died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at his home. Robert was born November 18, 1927 near Bixby, the son of Theodore and Sylvia (Rasmussen) Meyer. He was raised near Bixby and there he attended country school. He entered the United States Army and served in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Owatonna area and married Barbara Staska in 1949. They later divorced. Robert worked for OTC in Owatonna and later moved to Babbitt, Minnesota where he was a heavy equipment operator in the mine pits. He returned to Owatonna and worked at OTC as a die maker. He retired from OTC in 1989. Growing up, Robert boxed Golden Gloves. Robert was also a lifetime member of the NRA. He valued education and was well read. He loved visiting museums, art galleries and was a lifelong student of world history. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and trapping. He delighted in visiting with friends and family. He was known more as an adopted grandpa to neighborhood kids and will be missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by two daughters, Linda (and Dale) Christensen of Browerville; Peggy (and Ron) Weathers of Arizona; sister, Romaine Cohen of St. Paul; six grandchildren, Jeremy Christensen; Wylie Christensen; Amanda Weathers; Emilie Weathers; Jennifer Weathers; Ronnie Weathers; two great grandchildren, Liam O''Brion; Desiree LaFore. He was preceded in death by an infant son and infant daughter, his parents, a brother Irving Meyer; and a sister Harriet Hershberger Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 29 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Paul Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Bixby.
