Obituary

Robert "Bob" Lee Nesbit, 84, of Owatonna, died Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Birchwood Cottages. He was born April 3, 1934 in Winona, Minnesota the son of William and Agnes (Blank) Nesbit. He grew up in St. Charles, Minnesota. He attended school in St. Charles where he excelled in sports; baseball, basketball and football. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1952. After high school, Bob worked for a summer at Canyon Hotel in Yellowstone National Park and returned to Minnesota and worked for Western Electric Company as an installer. He enlisted in the United States Army on April 16, 1954. He was trained in trouble shooting and repair of radar systems and then deployed overseas to Pirmaseans, Germany where he worked at the Signal Corps Repair Depot until his honorable discharge on March 29, 1956. Following his military service, he worked at Honeywell Aeronautics division until 1958 at which time he enrolled as a student at the University of Minnesota. Between his sophomore and junior year, he married Beverly Ann Tenley on June 25, 1960 and following his graduation in 1962, the couple moved to Owatonna. Bob then began his career at Truth Tool working in the purchasing department and retired in 1991. Bob has contributed over 200 Board of Contributors Articles and Letters To The Editor to the Owatonna People's Press over the years. He frequently was a guest lecturer at the Owatonna High School and spoke to nearly all of the Exchange Clubs in Southern Minnesota. Bob's faith in God was deeply rooted within himself. His mission was to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ at his speaking engagements, at his work, in his conversations with people and in mission trips to Jamaica. He was a faithful and active member of Christian Family Church in Owatonna serving as an elder, photographer, historian, greeter and co-treasurer for 32 years. He was also a 42 year member of the Owatonna Exchange Club. The essence of Bob's life is best described by the scripture passage 2 Timothy 4:7…."I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith". He is survived by his wife of 58 1/2 years, Beverly Nesbit of Owatonna; children, Steven (and Bonnie) Nesbit of Lakeville and Susan (and Brian) Mower of Owatonna; grandchildren, Alissa (and Ryan) Saverine of New Richmond, WI and their children, Reegan and Easton, Katie (and Andy) Scheffler of Jordan and their children, Brynnley and Maverick, Alex Nesbit of Alexandria, Kyle (and Andrea) Maloney of Owatonna and their child, Addison, and Sarah (and Jon) Palm of Owatonna and their child, Griffin; a brother, Milton (and Vanessa) Nesbit of Munster, IN and a niece, Holly (and Marty) Cochran of Ashland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes; granddaughter, Sheila Nesbit and siblings, Don Nesbit and Gladys Wanless. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Sunday, February 10th from 1:00-4:00pm and at church one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11, 2019 at 10:30am at Christian Family Church in Owatonna with Dr. Tim Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Clinton Falls Township.
