Robert 'Bob' R. Ringhofer, 94, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his home. Bob was born January 30, 1918 in Owatonna, the son of Charles and Christina (Pfeifer) Ringhofer. He married Barbara Jasinski on December 27, 1937 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Bob joined the Army on March 7, 1944 and proudly served his country in the South Pacific and Korea. Bob was active in his church and with the Boy Scouts of America. In 1953 he took 23 boys to the National Scout Jamboree in California. In 1954 Bob and Barb went into business with Ray Johnson, opening the first fertilizer company in Owatonna. By 1955, Bob and Barb were the sole owners and renamed it Ringhofer Fertilizer Company. Bob''s sons, Bob and Rich worked tirelessly along side them. From his first showing of ponies in 1947 to becoming the Fair Board Member, Bob has been associated with the Steele County Free Fair for 58 years. Bob loved the fair, working on the board, and becoming the official historian for the Muckle Museum. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were always sure to make the journey to enjoy the SCFF with him. In 1999 the SCFF celebrated 'Bob Ringhofer Night' in honor of his 50 years of service as a board member. We are very proud of his long-term commitment to the SCFF and the smiles he shared with so many. Bob and Barb donated a drinking fountain to the SCFF in 1973 and were instrumental in moving the American flagpole from Roosevelt School to Fair Square Park. After Barb''s death, the family had handicap picnic tables placed in the park as well. Bob was fair in sharing his love, time and affection with the family. He enjoyed family gatherings and loved it when the family sat down to eat together and shared their day with one another. Bob and Barb were together for 62 wonderful years, raised four children, and ran a successful business together. Bob was the chair member of the Owatonna Saddle Club, Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Honorary Member of The American Legion, Elks Club, The Knights of Columbus, Foresters and Aztecs. Bob will be sorely missed by his loving children, Bob, Jr. (and Iris) Ringhofer, of Elysian, MN, Richard (and Carolyn) Ringhofer of Minnetonka, MN, Bonnie (and Woody) Wodrich of Matthews, NC, Donnis (and Dick) Schueller of Big Lake, MN; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; dear friend, Doris Kriesel and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ringhofer; daughter, Mary Ringhofer; brothers, George, Lawrence, Leo, William Ringhofer; sisters, Marie Ringhofer, Eva Steinbauer; grandsons, Richard, Daniel Wodrich. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and one hour before the funeral mass. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with The Reverend Andrew Vogel officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.
