Robert Louis Wencl, 90, of Owatonna, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Benedictine Living Community.

He was born February 16, 1933 in Mantorville to Louis and Elsie (Stancl) Wencl. When Robert was three his family moved to Owatonna and attended Havana Township School until eighth grade before graduating from Owatonna High School in 1951. In 1955 Robert joined the United States Army, getting deployed to Europe before coming back home to start farming until 1976. He went to an auction and met Sue, and they were married at the Little Brown Church in Iowa on August 27, 1977. They began working on the dairy farm together and raising their two children together Patti and Louis. He officially retired from Cedar Valley Services after working there for 15 years.

Robert was secretary for the Havana Township Board and also Treasurer for the Township and the Owatonna Eagles. Robert and Sue would manage the ADA Malt Stand during the fair. They were awarded the Century Farm Award in 2014, and the Mr. and Mrs. Eagle of the Year award together. When he was younger Bob showed hogs at the Steele county fair. Bob was a good neighbor and always willing to help others with baying hay and farm chores when needed.

Robert is survived by daughter, Patti (and Ryan) Keller of Owatonna; son, Louis (and Melissa) Wencl of Owatonna; grandchildren, Kerryn and Kaden Keller, and Grant, Braylen, and Kayla Wencl; nephew Dick Koss; niece, Diane O'Neill; and sister-in-law Vi Wencl.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sue Wencl; parents, Louis and Elsie Wencl; brothers, Benjamin Wencl, Donald Wencl, Raymond Wencl; sister Blanche Koss.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 12th, 2023 from 4PM to 7PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Havana Cemetery.
