Roberta "Bobbi" Joanne Smock, 64, of West Concord, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Homestead Hospice. Roberta was born April 17, 1946 in Montevideo, Minnesota the daughter of Adrian and Ruth (Gens) Haen. At a young age Bobbi moved with her family to Evansville, Minnesota and there she was raised and graduated from Evansville High School. She then attended St. Cloud School of Nursing receiving her nursing degree in 1967. Bobbi moved to Alexandria where she worked as a nurse at the Douglas County Hospital. She was united in marriage to William Smock on August 26, 1967 in St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in West Concord. While Bill was in the United States Navy they lived in San Diego and Long Beach. Bill returned from the service and they moved to South Minneapolis in February 1971. They moved to West Concord in November 1971. She worked as a financial worker for Dodge and Olmsted County as well as being a homemaker. Bobbi was an avid painter and reader. She treasured her time spent quilting and made many cherished quilts for her children and grandchildren. Horseback riding, working on crossword puzzles, gardening and relaxing with a cup of coffee on the swing in her back yard were a few of Bobbi's favorite activities. She blessed us with her wicked sense of humor, chocolate chip cookies and comforting hugs. Bobbi enjoyed traveling for week-long vacations to Montana, weekend trips north with her quilting friends and afternoons cruising with Bill in their red convertible. Above all, Bobbi was an encouraging and patient grandmother, a supportive and caring mother, and a loving spouse to Bill. She is survived by her husband William Smock of West Concord; two daughters, Jennifer (and Mark) Whitson of Northfield and their three children, Ellie, Sydney and Adrienne; Charlene Smock of Farmington and her three children, AJ, Kate and Sam Schwoch; a son, Jason (and Teresa) Smock of West St. Paul and their three children, Will, Nick and Emma; and a brother, Lynn (and Susan) Haen in Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna on Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, West Concord with Father Will Thompson and Father Kurt Farrell officiating. Interment will be in the St. Vincent dePaul Cemetery in West Concord. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House or to the West Concord Ambulance Service.
