Obituary

Rodney S. Kyllo, 73, of Owatonna, Minnesota died Friday, June 16, 2017 of complications from Multiple System Atrophy at Brookdale Senior Living in Owatonna. Rod was born November 26, 1943 in Kenyon, Minnesota, the son of Francis and Hazel (Germundson) Kyllo. He graduated from West Concord High School then attended business school for accounting. He worked at The King Company for 33 years and then for Wenger Corporation for 12 years. Rod was united in marriage to Katherine Spatenka McDonald on May 19, 1977 in Owatonna. Rod was active in many organizations. His favorites included serving on the Airport Commission, Chamber Ambassador, Civil Service Commission, and as treasurer for Associated Church of which he was a member. He was also a member of Rotary Club, Jaycees, Lions, Sertoma, Steele County Historical Society, and life member of Elks and played on their bowling league. He and Kathe were foster parents and were named Steele County Foster Parents of the Year in 1990. He loved his family, especially time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed camping/ time at the lake, gardening, breakfasts at the Kernel with friends, and spending time on his family farm in Kenyon. He is survived by his wife Kathe Kyllo of Owatonna; daughter, Kim Molitor (Paul) of Austin and children, Mandy and Michael; daughter, Kelly Boomgarden (Dan) of Owatonna and children, Destry, Brendan, and Kiley; son, Kory Kyllo (Kelly) of Red Wing and children, Anthony, Amy, and Kayla; son, Keith McDonald (Christine) of Madison Lake and children, Madison, McKenna, Julia, and Ashley; daughter, Karla McDonald Boone (Eric Johnson) of Mankato and children, Jonah, Noah, and Mikaela; son, Chris Kyllo (Whitney) of Kenyon and children, Mason and Aubrey; sister, Karen Faulkner (Darrel) of Mantorville; seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Heather Molitor; aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Associated Church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Associated Church with Reverend Coqui Conkey officiating. Interment will be in the Hegre Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon.
