Roger Bruce Broin, Sr., age 80, of Kenyon, passed away on April 14, 2025, only six days from his 81st birthday. He was born on April 20, 1944, to the late Julius and Elma (Thompson) Broin in Kenyon, where he grew up and was a lifetime community member until recently. Roger grew attending school in a one room schoolhouse until moving to Kenyon High School where he was a graduate. After graduating high school, Roger joined the United States Air Force, being active during the Vietnam War.

While he was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, Roger's fellow airman had asked him to join him on a double date. Little did Roger know that he would go on a date with his future wife, Patsy Bearden, and they would later marry on June 4, 1966. After his honorable discharge, Roger and Patsy lived in Arizona until moving back to Minnesota so Roger could be with his mother.

During his time in the workforce, Roger worked at many places. While living in Kenyon, he worked at the canning factory before being transferred to Owatonna when it closed; when the family moved to California, Roger was working in the vast vineyards and factories; Oklahoma had him working in the oil fields and as a taxi driver. No matter where they moved, Minnesota was home. Roger and Patsy had even been foster parents for almost 15 years. When Roger wasn't working, he was listening to his records and working on his cars, his favorite being his '56 Chevy.

Roger is survived by his sons: Roger Jr. "Bruce", James (Jamie), and David (Sara); grandchildren: Sara (Ben), Steven, Amara, Brittyn, Michael, Garrett, Clinton (Paige), Brittany (Josh), Jake, Josh, Wyatt, and Quinn; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy; and his daughter-in-law, Amy Broin.

A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Dale Lutheran Church, rural Kenyon. Full military honors will follow the service followed by a light lunch.
