Roger W. Houglum, 90, of Kenyon, died Friday, February 26, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 12, 1926 in Kenyon the son of Helmer and Marie (Gunderson) Houglum. Roger graduated from Kenyon High School with the Class of 1943. He married Margaret Ruble July 17, 1948. The couple lived in Albert Lea following their marriage while Roger worked for International Harvestor. The couple returned to the Kenyon area to farm together in 1954. They moved into town upon their retirement from farming in the mid 1990's.
Roger served on the Goodhue County ASCS Board, Hauge Lutheran Church Council and Kenyon Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. Board. He was a member of Hauge Lutheran Church his entire life. Roger loved sports. He was a loyal Minnesota Twins fan and loved high school sports. He also enjoyed watching the Vikings and Minnesota Gophers. Roger enjoyed fishing and golfing. He and his wife had many trips to Grand Marais and to various places in the United States to see their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Houglum of Kenyon; daughters, Nadine (and Craig) Bergevin of Springfield, MO, Marilyn (and Tom) Arndt of Bloomington, IL, Nancy (and Todd) Dahling of Goodhue; grandchildren, Kim (and Jeff) Williams, Jenny (and Rodney) Sisney, Micki (and Matt) Caetano, Emilie (and Eric) Brehm, Todd (and Fay) Crouse, Tracy (and Jon) Oeltjenbruns, Josh Dahling, Charles Dahling; 16 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Norma Houglum and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne; brothers, Herbert, Orvis, Donald, James; sister, Theressa.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 11am at Hauge Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Martin Horn will be officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon.
