Obituary

Dr. Roger V. Majerus, 83, of Kenyon, Minnesota died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Pleasant Manor in Faribault, Minnesota after a long fight with prostate cancer. Dr. Roger V. Majerus, the son of Walter and Mary (Liffrig) Majerus, was born August 24, 1933 in Red Wing, Minnesota and delivered by his uncle, Dr. Bill Liffrig. He grew up on a farm by Bellechester, Minnesota. Some of his fondest childhood memories included going to Bellechester with his dad. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Bellechester then entered Goodhue High School where he graduated as Salutatorian of his class. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota in 1951 and graduated in 1957 with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery and a degree of Bachelor of Science. Roger received a direct commission as First Lieutenant in the Army Dental Corps and was stationed in Alaska, Korea, Germany, and various places in the United States. He retired after 30 years in the Army as a full Colonel. He received numerous awards during his career including: Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. Roger liked to hunt, fish, and was a collector, especially of rocks, minerals, turtles, lone wolf pictures, and he loved to travel. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kenyon. He is survived by his lovely wife, Pauline Witt of Kenyon, MN; two sons, Mike (Jan) Majerus of Houma, LA, and Patrick (Penny) Majerus of Raleigh, NC; three daughters, Marjorie Kari of Bonney Lake, WA, Paula (Tim) Thornton of Woodbury, MN, Karen (Rob) Frazier of Cummings, GA; stepson, George Jensen of Kenyon, MN; step son-in-law, Allan Cloutier of Farmington, MN; six grandchildren, Lizzy, Maddie, Anne, Haley, Taylor, and Jacob; one brother, Dennis Majerus of Goodhue, MN; three sisters, Gladys (John) Lubinski of Plainview, MN; Kay Majerus of Rochester, MN; Diane (Denny) O'Reilly of Goodhue, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Majerus; Mary (Hanf) Majerus, the mother of his five children; brother, Lance Majerus. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kenyon with Reverend Kevin Kenney officiating. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bellechester. Military honors will be conducted by the Kenyon Color Guard.
